However, it would have actually made it easier if the door was barricaded and unavailable - we would have gone around front as a group instead of just two of us and the fight would have been easier! :) At that point we could have just talked through the door and eventually gotten our point across, I suppose.

My general point about DCs stands though, I think, because you still can't do the stuff I would want to do in the system. However, the adventure seems better written. Sometimes ad hoc changes do go awry, that is the cost of doing business.

In retrospect we approached the whole thing wrong. I didn't realize it was night time. Had we known that, we could have easily sat across the river and bombarded the enemies with longbow/firebolt and that would have been very effective. Long ranged attacks coming out of darkness are really hard to deal with. If they put out their lights to cope with our attacks, then we can rush in and they would be forced to defend mostly blind. If they rush us then we can get a ton of them down via attrition before they close. In any case, much better scenario for us.Skyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10723733406348223879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1305372753022597815.post-18797328631151444172016-06-09T20:14:11.689-07:002016-06-09T20:14:11.689-07:00To clarify - I messed up the back door.
It was su...To clarify - I messed up the back door.

It was supposed to be barricaded, but I panicked that you guys were having too much trouble and went with a lock because I couldn't quickly figure out a reasonable way for you to get through a barrier that 10 humanoids couldn't.

The text was also a mess with the building description leaving out the (presumably 2nd floor) windows that were mentioned half a page away when talking about bad guys throwing torches and rocks in the windows.

So you were supposed to have to figure out how to get through a barricaded door (lots of strength?), communicate through a barricade in chaos (tough!) or go up and in a window, which would have been perfect if you still had a Levitate spell left.

I feel bad about messing that one up because I sensed you lost immersion there.
